Abstract

This state-of-the-art book deals with advanced spatial modulation (ASM), which are a special class of recent Multiple-Input Multiple-Output MIMO techniques, for various applications like radio frequency (RF) based body area network (BAN) communication, free-space optical (FSO) communication, underwater optical wireless communication (UOWC) and hybrid FSO/RF communication. The performance analysis of such systems is achieved in terms of certain performance metrics and compared with other techniques available in the literature. Such SM based schemes can find its application in advanced 5G and 6G communications. The diagrams of the system models of the different schemes along with tables and examples will help readers get a clear understanding of this approach. This book elucidates required derivations, examples, and links various concepts related to this field so that readers can gain comprehensive knowledge. Pseudo codes or algorithms or MATLAB/MATHEMATICA programs are also provided so that readers can easily implement the concepts which they learn. This volume will be useful for students, researchers, and industry alike.

Abstract

Radio and radar astronomy are powerful tools when studying the wonders of the universe, yet they tend to mystify amateur astronomers. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to newcomers, containing everything you need to start observing at radio wavelengths. Written by a mechanical engineer who has actually built and operated the tools described, the book contains a plethora of tested advice and practical resources. This revised edition of the original 2014 book Getting Started in Radio Astronomy provides a complete overview of the latest technology and research, including the newest models and equipment on the market as well as an entirely new section on radio astronomy with software-defined radios (SDRs). Four brand-new beginner projects are included, including bouncing a radar signal off the Moon, detecting the aurora, and tuning into the downlink radio used by astronauts aboard the ISS. Requiring no previous knowledge, no scary mathematics, and no expensive equipment, the book will serve as a fun and digestible reference for any level of astronomers hoping to expand their skills into the radio spectrum.

Abstract

This book covers selected topics of automated logic synthesis dedicated to FPGAs. The authors focused on two main problems: decomposition of the multioutput functions and technology mapping. Additionally, the idea of using binary decision diagrams (BDD) in these processes was presented. The book is a scientific monograph summarizing the authors’ many years of research. As a result, it contains a large number of experimental results, which makes it a valuable source for other researchers. The book has a significant didactic value. Its arrangement allows for a gradual transition from basic things (e.g., description of logic functions) to much more complex issues. This approach allows less advanced readers to better understand the described problems. In addition, the authors made sure that the issues described in the book were supported by practical examples, thanks to which the reader can independently analyze even the most complex problems described in the book.

Abstract

This book deals with the analysis and development of numerical methods for the time-domain analysis of multiphysical effects in superconducting circuits of particle accelerator magnets. An important challenge is the simulation of “quenching”, i.e. the transition of a material from the superconducting to the normally electrically conductive state. The book analyses complex mathematical structures and presents models to simulate such quenching events in the context of generalized circuit elements. Furthermore, it proposes efficient parallelized algorithms with guaranteed convergence properties for the simulation of multiphysical problems. Spanning from theoretical concepts to applied research, and featuring rigorous mathematical presentations on one side, as well as simplified explanations of many complex issues, on the other side, this book provides graduate students and researchers with a comprehensive introduction on the state of the art and a source of inspiration for future research. Moreover, the proposed concepts and methods can be extended to the simulation of multiphysical phenomena in different application contexts. .

Abstract

This book first provides readers with an introduction to the underlying physics and state-of-the-art application of photon counting detectors for X-ray imaging. The authors explain that a photon-counting imaging detector can realize quantitative analysis because the detector can derive X-ray attenuation information based on the analysis of intensity changes of individual X-ray. To realize this analysis, it is important to consider the physics of an object and detector material. In this book, the authors introduce a novel analytical procedure to create quantitative X-ray images for medical diagnosis. Provides a detailed explanation of the principle of imaging using an energy integrating detector (EID) which is currently being used as an X-ray imaging detector in medicine; Provides a single-source reference that enables readers to understand photon-counting techniques, including the underlying basic physics, specific physics of the detector, novel analytical procedure and future scope; Includes necessary background information and state-of-the-art applications; Demonstrates procedure using a simulation study and a proto-type imaging detector; Presents information in a manner which makes it easier for readers to reproduce results.

Abstract

This book explains and demonstrates with an exhaustive set of design examples, how common types of radio frequency(RF) amplifiers (classes A, B, AB, C, D, E, F, G and H) can be designed, and then have their performance characteristics evaluated and optimized with SPICE. The author demonstrates the transient analysis features of SPICE, along with industry-standard load- and source-pull techniques to simulate the steady-state, long-term time-domain behavior of any test RF amplifier.

Abstract

This book is intended for senior undergraduate and graduate students as well as practicing engineers who are involved in design and analysis of radio frequency (RF) circuits. Detailed tutorials are included on all major topics required to understand fundamental principles behind both the main sub-circuits required to design an RF transceiver and the whole communication system. Starting with review of fundamental principles in electromagnetic (EM) transmission and signal propagation, through detailed practical analysis of RF amplifier, mixer, modulator, demodulator, and oscillator circuit topologies, all the way to the basic system communication theory behind the RF transceiver operation, this book systematically covers all relevant aspects in a way that is suitable for a single semester university level course. Offers readers a complete, self-sufficient tutorial style textbook; Includes all relevant topics required to study and design an RF receiver in a consistent, coherent way with appropriate depth for a one-semester course; The labs and the book chapters are synchronized throughout a 13-week semester so that the students first study each sub-circuit and the related theory in class, practice problems, work out design details and then build and test the sub-circuit in the lab, before moving onto the next chapter; Includes detailed derivations of all key equations related to new concepts.
